Donut making

Last Thursday I went over to one of the homeschool family's house to have cooking class. I made donuts together with the whole family.

Those donuts look good! Did you count them when you got done so that you could give your dad a proper report?

Well, ummm, no, not exactly. The problem was that they were being eaten as soon as they were fried. Thus kind of making it difficult to come up with an exact count. From previous experience, I know the recipe usually makes about 40 not counting the holes and mini-donuts.

Eating as you go is a legitimate excuse for not having an exact count. I believe in eating donuts immediately. I forgot to put the sugar in our donuts once. Thankfully, we tried them after we had made only two, and we discovered the mistake. Some of my other cooking mistakes haven't turned out so well. I shouldn't bring up this topic. Rebecca might tell you stories. Uh-oh.

Sugar is always an important ingredient in baked treats. That's why my motto is to make sure you taste the dough along each step of the way. Jessica always cringes and says "ugh! raw eggs", but I figure it's the risk every cook must take.... or at least I must take. I must take all the precautions I can!

Now you've got me curious.... Maybe I'll just have to fb Rebecca and ask for some stories.... :-P
